About Us

Julie Murray

Julie is 60 years old, living in Crete.  She trained as an Architect, worked for over 10 years in that career in Bristol, Oxford, and London.  This skill comes in handy when considering future ideas and design possibilities for WMR!  Through her journey of spiritual seeking she came to live in Crete with her family and worked for several years on the building project that we use for WMR.  From those years she has some helpful understanding and humour about the way things work in Greece (or not!) and speaks reasonable pidgin Greek.

Always busy with a mixed bag of volunteer work, Julie has been a Trustee of a School and 2 Healing Trusts.  In business before WMR, she was a founding and managerial partner in both a successful stationery, card, Poster art shop and Gallery in Brighton, and in an iconic Cafe Bar at the heart of the Venetian port area of Chania in Crete – a European heritage site.

Her other main skill set, in Healing, Rei’ki and the use of Bach Flower Remedies runs alongside the world of the Retreat Centre.  Julie has run many workshops in several countries developing her individual way of teaching about the Bach Remedies and consequently wrote a book of that approach to understanding these wonderful healing tools.  Julie is always happy to share her knowledge and experience of the ways of this natural healing, and her enthusiasm is often infectious!

Julie is divorced, friends with her ex-husband, and has two grown-up sons – they live and work in Brighton, England.

Kate Wardman

Coming from spiritual and entrepreneurial parents has stood Kate in good stead – they had their first residential care home when Kate was 10, so from an early age she was involved in the business of taking care of people.

At 21, Kate decided to explore the world outside of the family business and entered the corporate world of advertising & publishing, with the last six years in IT project management.

She first visited White Mountain Retreat in September 2002, a trip that changed her life - whilst there, she signed up for the job of vegetarian cook for the following season and has been involved with White Mountain Retreat ever since.

Since White Mountain Retreat closed, Kate has been in the UK and uses those IT skills to run her own business, building websites & providing web consultancy, which she really enjoys. Alongside this, Kate has been travelling further down her spiritual path, training in various energy treatments including Reyad Sekh Em and Setsukido. Kate is the UK distributor for ‘The Guided Journey to Self Mastery’, a spiritual self development board game from Australia and promotes this at various mind, body, spirit shows.  She recently spent time living in Glastonbury and, for her, the energy there is very much like the energy at White Mountain Retreat – so much so, it would be a surprise to hear people talking English rather than Greek!

Kate is currently living with family in Kent, along with her ever faithful dog, Quin.

David Hall

David lives in the Cotswolds with his wife and three dogs. His life has been devoted to education, as a teacher, Head teacher and currently a learning mentor in a City school where he is responsible for pastoral care. He is also an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) trainer and a Reiki practitioner. He runs workshops for parents and teachers. David spends a few weeks each  year in Crete and hopes to increase this to a few months a year when he retires in 3 years time.

David is passionate about working with people at the White Mountain Retreat. He has been deeply touched by the wonderful times he has experienced there and looks forward to helping with courses, managing the gardens and helping others on their road to self discovery and personal healing.

David has been an ardent Wolves supporter for 52 years and hopes to hang around long enough to see them win the Premier League!!.
