What we have

The Physical
The property
White Mountain has three buildings within a large holding of land located outside village or town development that creates a beautiful and peaceful haven of an environment, with space to develop ideas. It is close to most civilised amenities, and is not completely quiet, as we are in a farming community, the Greek air force has its routines, and in summer, on occasion, the Cretan live music sounds across the water.
There is space here to offer hospitality to many people without anyone feeling crowded and we have many plans to develop more gardens and places for people to wander, sit and be – both outdoors and sheltered parts.
While running as a Retreat centre, we offered hospitality for people to come and stay for a quiet retreat for themselves and set up a varied seasonal programme. There were diverse, interesting courses, regular classes and healing treatments available for visitors and for local people alike. Many groups came to stay from all over the world, finding an inspiring and supportive
environment here for their work and play!
The Country
Crete is a magnificent Mediterranean island – it is one of the largest, but it is the high mountain ranges, including the White Mountains that we see from here, that give the island an awesome backdrop. The light and air is very clear, colours of water, leaf and flower so vibrant. We have lovely local foodstuffs, and most other products are easily available, so it feels an abundant life here, in spite of the financial difficulties. We are truly blessed.
The Energetic
Besides the natural wild beauty that is Crete, the lovely location and views we enjoy, and the nice buildings that accommodate us, the really special treasure is not seen, so much as felt. The island of Crete itself has powerful energies and draws many people to it from all over the world. The energies which abide and radiate here enhance the magical experience. They touch heart and soul; loving, supportive and light, and people take in what they want and need in individual ways. Many people that are attracted to come may have no consciousness of why, most important is they feel comfortable when they do.
It is because of the vortex of energy here that the Retreat has been created – ordinary ways to come and be in this energy – that simple. Though not limited at all, nevertheless every thing is affected by the energy.
The Buildings
The buildings each have their own ‘feel’ and offer different energies and atmospheres to all who enter.
Eagle building, where most group work and gatherings have taken place has quite a dramatic feel, standing as it does on a terrace platform overlooking the sea. The Group room downstairs with its sunken floor area gives an easy feel of gathering and focus. From the Retreat’s first days, children visiting would gather up the
cushions and make little beds in there- like a nest! Upstairs, our simple Quiet Room is set aside for quiet, healing and meditation, available to all. It is a very special place, sacred space, at the heart of White Mountain.
Phoenix we have used to house our guests. It has a loving gentle energy, so people easily feel at home there. It is set down in the land, more held in Mother Earth.
Owl building also has a loving energy, and we feel very held, and a secure presence there. In its design it sits in the olive terraces, each like a garden, as well as enjoying the uplifting outlook over sea, land and skies.
On, and in the Land – Earth Energies
The Sacred Circle
During our first 6 weeks of the Retreat in 2001, through Morwenna's channelling we learned of an ancient tribe who had lived around our headland, who wanted to live in peace, simply, worshipping Mother Earth and her gods - our ancestors! We marked out a stone circle on the headland with its doorway facing west; a place of worship for them, healing, loving power still present here, yet recognised by those people some 6,000 years ago! We have made several ceremonies in the circle- always special occasions.
Since 2001, energies change, the size was adjusted and other doorways opened to the circle, symbolizing our growth – ready to open to new directions.
The Stone Circle
Our 12 Stone Circle, planted in 2006 was aligned and joined to the Earth Matrix of Ley lines of energy and Sacred sites over our planet – recognised as a ’little brother’ – and that connection brings strength in the collective, both in receiving and radiating out love and light. This feels like a blessing to White Mountain, though we do not understand the full meaning of it.
The Labyrinth
A beautiful curved Cretan labyrinth in stone was built on the headland in 2006, a further enhancement for the land and strengthening its energy system.
The Spring
In a certain spot on the headland, there is a sacred well-spring to be uncovered (it was known to and hidden by the ancient tribe who lived here long ago). We await the land to be safe before this can be revealed, and who knows what will come from that breakthrough?
The Beings & Experience
Julie and Kate have done their best to act as Guardians, are committed to White Mountain Retreat and want, with your help, to be a part of taking it forwards. Working with spiritual guidance as best as we all can, for the highest good of all concerned, is fundamental to this place, its creation and
purpose. We look forward to others joining the Team as we go, and we have local friends, therapists and advisors to call on.
Our animals are part of the family. Cats,
Mollie in Owl and Pearl in Phoenix can’t wait to have company again. Méli and Dolly the cats in Eagle, Magic and Petal the dogs are open to offers of treats, laps to nuzzle or sit on – and Quin will be back, so he can guide you down to swim off the rocks! We also have some wonderful creatures in the wild life about us; from the majestic soaring birds of prey, the joyous speed of swallows in flight to shy geckos and fancy-coloured preying mantises.
In summary
Though there is quite a lot of preparation work to do to start again, we do have a lot to offer that can ease this process. Much was learned from the years of running and that experience can be put to good use; also much of the necessary equipment here to run the Centre is already here. Improvements are needed, but there much that can be built on. We have good local knowledge and contacts, as well as a strong international mailing list, so with your support, the place can come back to life quite quickly!
